Bloodborne Pathogen Training

Bloodborne pathogen training is mandatory training for employees who have a reasonably anticipated occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens, as specified by OSHA.

Under the University of Arizona Bloodborne Pathogen Exposure Control Plan, "bloodborne pathogen" is defined as any pathogenic microogranisms that are present in human blood and can cause disease in humans. These Pathogens include, but are not limited to, HBV, HCV, and HIV.

"Blood" under this plan is definited as whole human blood, any of its parts (serum, platelets, etc.), products made from human blood, or any human body fluids contaminated with blood.

Bloodborne Pathogen Training is provided through the Department of Risk Management and Safety. For additional information, contact Herb Wagner at 621-7691 or hwagner@email.arizona.edu
